    Default Server Overload PHP

    Hello,

(I'm sorry if I have put this in the wrong topic)

I have Zen Cart on a shared Pipeten Server along with 2 wordpress blog sites and a couple of other sites.

I keep get 500 server errors. I have spoken to my host but they recommend that I need a dedicated server. Do you agree with this given my visitors (and therefore the associated PHP memory usage and database requests):

I get about 300 visitors a day to my main site and blog - I have about 500 products in my zencart shop) and the other blog gets about 50 visitors a day. The other websites get about 200 visitors a day altogether.

Many Thanks for any insight that you can offer.

    Sue

500 server errors could mean there is a problem with the Server or your site. You would need to check your Error logs and the 'cache' dir. of Zen Cart to see if any site errors. Getting your own Dedicated server is nice if you can afford it; similar to owning a home instead of renting. Odds are though, your own server would be overkill.

It is unlikely that the errors you're getting have anything to do with your traffic level and being on shared hosting. I have one site generating 15,000 visits and 275,000 page views a month on shared hosting, and it works just fine.

PS: Unless, of course, you have a relly crappy host.

Thanks everyone. I'll read the link that DrByte posted.

This is the error that my host says isbecause I am exceeding PHP limits:

[Sat Nov 19 09:45:01 2011] [error] [client 195.234.136.80] FastCGI: incomplete headers (0 bytes) received from server "/hsphere/shared/php5/bin/php", referer: http://www.letmelearn.co.uk/

I'm getting a lot of these. So far they have been a very good host with exceptions customer support. They even phoned me to talk about this although they did want me to move to a dedicated server.

I have a hard time believing that I need a dedicated server for what I'm running. But I have added a new wordpress members site recently which might be quite memory hungry.

    Thanks
    Sue

Your host has clearly set their limits VERY low. Keep your eyes wide open, and be prepared to move to a more capable hosting company -- most good hosts don't impose such unreasonably low limits on their hosting customers.
