Parent / Child products?

I hope that this is not a duplicate question... I did not see it answered in another post. Does Zen cart 1.3.9 allow for Parent/Child products, or is that something being added to 1.5? I have been evaluating Zencart for use with an upstart publishing company and want to make sure that it will suit their needs before moving forward.

They want to be able to create a parent product of book X. In the parent product, display the book cover, synopsis, etc. Then define 4 child products - A Paperback version as well as select electronic versions for purhcase, Pdf, Ebook, Sony, etc. They would like to display the parent product (with no purchase link) and display each of the child products below the parent as available for purchase. Do I need to make each book it's own category?

Zen Cart doesn't do "parent/child" at this time, but you can have the "book" as the product and each of the options as an attribute of the product.

How would I be able to handle downloads of e-book purchases if I went with attributes? I figured I would need to have each version of the book defined as it's own product in order to assign the proper download file to the actual product.

Downloads are attached to attributes.......So each downloadable version of the product can have its own attribute with the specific download attached
