Zencart does not use PayPal shopping buttons.

You need to INSTALL a PayPal module in your zencart admin panel, then link it to your PayPal account.

Correct. With Zen Cart, you'll be using the advanced shopping-cart approach to transactions, not the old "slap a PayPal button on your product HTML page" approach that's designed for blogs etc that don't have ecommerce built-in.

The Express Checkout module which is already built-in to Zen Cart is all you need for accepting PayPal payments.
Configure it according to the instructions www.zen-cart.com/getpaypal, and then when customers click the Checkout button from their shopping cart, PayPal will be presented as an available payment option for the purchase.
