Sales Icon Image overlaid over Product Image

Greetings Ladies and Gents,

I have a rather urgent problem i'm trying to fix, I'd like to display an overlaid image over top of all product images listed on all pages, including categories/sub-categories/index and the product info page if the item is on sale. Ive come across

But Im really unsure how to implement that method on the Product Images, is there perhaps a quicker way to work with Javascript and applying a class to the div of the image if its on sale and appending it using jquery?

Help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Can anyone give a code for the same function of putting a "new" overlay pic on the main product listings when they all populate?

Same type of thing as the "on sale" just "new item".

I have installed the mod for new item badge but need something for the products list.

Also, the same function for sold out would be excellent too :)
