product editing problem

Hi
I am quite new to this, I have installed the cart ver 1.3.9h onto an ssl server, done all the recommended alterations to make it functional and secure - i hope. Added products, installed the parcel force shipping module and the zen cart back up module. all seems to be working ok, even had one sale so far.
problem is this when i enter the product edit screen I have price, quantity, image and weight, but the item name, description and 'part no' have vanished, if i then click cancel the item remains intact in the product listing, if i change anything and click preview - update, then the listing is missing the bits that wernt displayed on the edit screen, clicking preview in the listing allows me to copy the description, ready to paste back in on the edit screen, theres got to be an easier way to do it?
I have read that a low version of php can cause this but i don't think thats my problem, perhaps someone can advise? please

its instaled on apache server running linux, PHP version 5.2.6, mySQL 4.1.11, with curl enabled

Right, I have just seen a link below my post which seems to point to me having to modify some files, this is DrByte's reply to known bug fixes regarding php5.2.3 but the title reads known bug with v1.3.9h and old versions of php, but then he goes on to say its only stricktly necessary if using php lower than 5.2.3, which is the bit thats confusing me a bit.
However I have printed off his instructions and having copied my cart as a mirror image onto my hdd, I'm going to have a go later tonight (when finished work) at implementing the changes and see what happens.

yep, that seems to have worked just fine.

I can now edit price and or quantity without re writing the whole description, brilliant!!

If anyone else is losing product name, description or model number when editing, even if your php is a newish version, but you are using 1.3.9h, then definately try the fix in this post, 6 i think it is http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?p=267898
