template transfer issues

hello, i recently installed 1.3.9a on a site (yes i know that i need to update, but read on and you'll see why i haven't updated yet), because it matched the same version of a template that i installed on a different site.

anyway, the first install went fine. then i installed the new version of avonlee contempo template. that went fine. everything looked great. i then did a template transfer from one of my other sites to my new one using the steps listed in here. the php transfer went fine.

i then went to rename the admin folder. once i had it open, i saw that it already had my preferred name for the admin folder there, i assume because of the file transfer. however, the path to the new admin folder was wrong. so i changed the name of the install to folder to the proper name. everything seemed ok. i uploaded the file and i relogged in to the renamed admin section.

the admin area look good UNTIL you click on any link within the admin area. i then get the 404 file error page. i also see in the address bar that ''admin'' has replaced my renamed admin file.

i then checked my cache for error files, none were found.

what do i need to do?
