negative amount shown when more expensive attribute selected

I would like to know if there is a way to show a negative amount next to an attribute when a more expensive attribute selected.

so if you have a drop-down with:
attribute 1 + $10
attribute 2 + $40

when attribute 2 is selected attribute 1 would show - $30

In the attribute controller when assigning the option and specifying the cost there is

Prices and Weights and under that
Price

There are 2 blocks the left most can hold a "minus" sign

I realize you can make the price a negative but that's not really what I'm wanting to do.

You would have to write custom code to do what you're proposing, and I suspect it wouldn't be a simple job.
