Tax not showing in the cart?

presently using: v1.3.9h
I was hacked and had to rebuild a new store. Everything is functiong except the sales tax does not show up in the cart. Can anyone please help. I need to get this running.

Since you've given us almost nothing to go on, it's impossible to give you an exact answer.
Could be missing files that you deleted from the server, or failed to upload, or didn't confirm that they uploaded properly.
Could be that you've not configured any taxes.
Could be that you turned off taxes from being displayed.
Could be that the addresses you're using fall outside the defined zones associated with taxes you've configured.
Could be addons conflicting with things.
Could be templates you've added/changed that are preventing normal operation.
...
And the list goes on.

And, by the way, the "shopping cart" page doesn't show taxes. Never has. Taxes show on the payment-choices and final-confirmation screens only.

Ok sorry for the lack of info
The taxes are not showing on the confirmation - sub total pages
I have it configured as follows
tax decimal places 0
display prices with tax false
display prices with tax in admin false
basis of product tax shipping
basis of shipping tax shipping
sales tax display status 1
show split tax lines false

locations/taxes
tax rates
class = taxable goods
zone = new jersey
tax rate 7%
priorty = 1

zone defs =
zone name new jersey
zone desc
new jersey local sales tax zone


I configured the store exactly as it was before but the tax no longer shows.
I was using: v1.3.9e
Do you have any ideas I am really stuck on this?

In your New Jersey zone definition, if you click on the Details button, do you have "USA" and "New Jersey" selected from the pulldown list?
