Multiple Shipping Methods? Really confused...

Hi,

I've been running Zen Cart for a few years now and so far I have always used 'Free Shipping' on all my products.

However now I want to offer a few more options. I basically want it set like this:

Shipping to US and Canada:
Option 1: Free
Option 2: Flat rate shipping based up number of items purchased.

Shipping outside of US and Canada:
Option 1: Free
Option 2: Flat rate shipping based up number of items purchased. (Different price scale to above)


I've spent most of the day trying to figure out how to do this, and have read the documentation on this site and I simply don't know how to do this.

Any help would be really appreciated! Thanks guys...

If you need to separate a shipping function so you get the same BEHAVIOUR for different REGIONS, you can CLONE many of the shipping modules. So you could have TWO "flat-rate" modules that behave the same, but are applied to two different Geo-Zones.

Thanks for the info.

To be perfectly honest though, most of that is above me. At the moment I really need some sort of 'first steps' guide to what the stuff within the shipping modules means. I'm looking at "Zone 1 Shipping Table" and feel kinda clueless.

Also I'm in the UK and when I enable the Zone Rates module and but GB in the country code...my checkout says "we are not shipping to your area" when I go to test it.

Sorry for the basic questions. I've done a ton of searches and can only find info on the more advanced stuff, and all I really want is an explanation of the basics...

Is there anywhere I can find such a thing?

Fairestcape's explanations are about as basic as you can get. If you follow the tutorial, you can create a cloned flat module. If you are really having trouble, fairestcape MIGHT have time to help you out. He's currently in Cape Town, but will be coming to the UK for xmas.

One other thing... Core zencart is not set up for "UK Compliance".

UK zencart sites should be set up with UK counties, weight conventions, date conventions, spelling conventions... etc, etc...

We install UK zencart using a derivative of Kev Polley's UK Template, so you get all the UK configurations.

Having a UK-configured site helps a lot, because it facilitates the installation and configuration of Royal Mail modules - which are the most popular shipping configs here.

While Kev's UK template is BEST set up during initial installation, it CAN be applied to existing ZC installs - but it's a little more complex to do it back-to-front.
