Checkout not working

Hi All

I have a fledgling site here:-

www.flsuk.co.uk/flsstore

I have set up a user : [email protected] with a password of : testing1

My problem is that when a user adds an item to the cart then accepts the shipping charge and confirms this by clicking on Checkout all that happens is that the user is taken to a blank white screen and nothing happens at all.

I have set up the PayPal IPN URL etc. and the account details.

Can anyone advise if they know what is happening here?

Cheers

Start here:

and I strongly suggest you remove Paypal IPN and install the much more reliable Paypal Express.

Re: Checkout not working

Hi SteveSH

I read this article and I have not been playing with the PHP files associated with the cart.

I also had the Zen Cart installed directly by my ISP and nothing was FTP'd up to the site.

I'll have a look to see about the Debug and see if I can understand how to use it......

... is probably the problem. Depending on who you are hosting with, MOST webhosts put a low-level monkey in charge of these procedures (such as a recent university computer sciences grad, who usually know nothing about computer science!) and the guy messes it up.

Who is your ISP?

Re: Checkout not working

Hi Schoolboy

The ISP is easyinternetsolutions.co.uk.

They have a script on their site (Fantastico) that auto installs Zen cart.

I had some issues with folder permissions that I had to get them to change as the logins would not work.

Do you think that this white page problem on the checkout could be a permissions issue ? If so which folder(s)??

Cheers

Re: Checkout not working

Looks like a bunch of clowns calling themselves easy-internet.biz .

Hmmm... Perhaps you need to find a professional host - one who KNOWS ecommerce...

Ask them HOW they did the install... If they used "Softaculous" or "Fantastico" you have some big work ahead of you - as you are UK based, native Zencart is not UK configured. You will need to configure it for UK conventions - eg: date formatting, UK counties, Spelling, Weights & Measures, UK Vat...

A good UK installer would have made the install UK-compliant.

Re: Checkout not working

Ah... you replied as I was typing.

Fantastico, eh... ?

BAD MOVE...

ZC should be installed manually to get the proper configurations.

Suggest you look for a better host.

Re: Checkout not working

As I have about 10 web sites with this host moving is not an option.

Also I have a site using Zen Cart (www.homeappliancesrus.co.uk) which is working fine, no white pages - though this was set up by someone else, hosted by them too.

But thanks for your suggestion, though I was hoping for a hint or two on how to fix or what to look for as the problem.

Cheers

The point about the tutorial article is that when you see a blank page in Zen Cart it's because your site encountered a PHP error somehow. And, the error details are logged in the /cache/ folder (accessible via FTP) for review.
The errors are not shown on-screen, for security reasons.

So, what's in your /cache/ folder? (other than .htaccess and index.html or index.php)

Re: Checkout not working

Won't hurt to look in the /cache folder for error logs and post the content here if it isn't self-explanatory.

Re: Checkout not working

[EDIT] *** all of us now typing at the same time ***

(The real fix is to find a competent host... but) a blank page is generally a result of a faulty PHP file - not usually a permissions issue.

Stevesh (above) points you to the tutorial on dealing with blank pages.

Further than showing you the diagnostic procedure, there's not much else we can offer, because we have no access to your logs or your code files.

Re: Checkout not working

Thanks to stevesh and DrByte!!

I have found loads of log files in the cache folder, I've downloaded two of them, as they were of different sizes from the same day (yesterday the 6th, lunchtime and later in the afternoon).

Log content from 13:42 6th Jan:-

[06-Jan-2012 13:44:32] PHP Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/a27flsu/public_html/flsstore/includes/languages/english/modules/shipping/flat.php:53) in /home/a27flsu/public_html/flsstore/includes/functions/functions_general.php on line 45

Log content from later in the afternoon on the same day:-

[06-Jan-2012 15:36:30] PHP Warning: constant() [function.constant]: Couldn't find constant MODULE_SHIPPING_PARCELFORCE48B_COMPENSATION_ in /home/a27flsu/public_html/flsstore/includes/modules/shipping/parcelforce48b.php on line 156

Both seem to relate to the shipping modules and not the stage after that.

So I downloaded all the logs from yesterday, all 18 of them, to have a look into each one.

All the log entries from yesterday after 13:42 (17 logs) contain this:-

[06-Jan-2012 15:15:00] PHP Warning: constant() [function.constant]: Couldn't find constant MODULE_SHIPPING_PARCELFORCE48B_COMPENSATION_ in /home/a27flsu/public_html/flsstore/includes/modules/shipping/parcelforce48b.php on line 156

The shipping module ParceFoce48Hrs is not switched on in Zen cart.

The two modules that ARE switched on are Flat Rate, which I have called Parcel Force Next day at a constant figure, so someone can pick overnight shipping.

The other module that is on is Table Rate, which I am having my own problems with making work, but ParcelForce48hrs is not switched on.

So I went to the store today and tried to make one purchase, which seemed to produce a total of 6 logs. 5 of them containing this:-

[07-Jan-2012 11:18:46] PHP Warning: constant() [function.constant]: Couldn't find constant MODULE_SHIPPING_PARCELFORCE48B_COMPENSATION_ in /home/a27flsu/public_html/flsstore/includes/modules/shipping/parcelforce48b.php on line 156

And on log containing:-

[07-Jan-2012 11:21:15] PHP Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/a27flsu/public_html/flsstore/includes/languages/english/modules/shipping/flat.php:53) in /home/a27flsu/public_html/flsstore/includes/functions/functions_general.php on line 45

I am not quite sure what this means, not being a PHP expert!! :-(

Cheers

Re: Checkout not working

The "couldn't find constant" error is to be expected if you've got an addon that's not fully configured. And isn't going to trigger a fatal problem.

However, the "headers already sent" error does roll into a fatal problem, and needs fixing.

You've got a problem on line 53 of your flat.php file. Searching the Tutorials/FAQs for the "headers already sent" error message text brings up this article: https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=87 which shows you what you should do.

Re: Checkout not working

Hi DrByte

Thanks for your help. The article you pointed me at sorted the problem completely!

Upon opening the flat.php file I found loads of extra line spaces at the top, between comments and at the bottom of the file.

How they got there is a mystery but at least they have been cleared and the cart now works....

Thanks again for your help, it was the most constructive received :-)

Cheers

Steve B
