Put back fresh copies of any files you edited. There is a symbiotic relationship between many of the files in Zen Cart so a coding mistake in one can generate errors in another.edited couple of files to change wording on checkout page and conditions.php nothing has been changed.

Guess since I'm not that far along with the setup, I will delete and fresh install. Wanted to upgrade to v1.5 any how.

The black_pure_free template does work in 1.50, so if that's the one you like you're good to go.
