Category description at top of product listing page

I would like the description of my category defined in the meta tags, to display at the top of the product listing page. I've read that it does this by default so I'm not sure if I've disabled or removed it, but I would like this to work again.
I don't want to link due to customer search queries.

I assume by top of the listing page you mean what appears in the browser title? If so, the only thing that will appear there is the title meta tag. The description meta tag is not supposed to appear there. If you mean something else, please clarify.

Or even above the category title.. ie: "Amino Acids"

Assuming you have a description written for the category, it should display by default. I don't know any way to disable the category description in admin, so maybe your template designer removed that function from tpl_index_categories.php.
