    Default Problem installing v1.5.0

I am trying to install v1.5.0 alongside my existing shop which is running on v1.3.9. Having set all the permissions in accordance with the installation document, when I start the installation process I initially see the page that starts "Hello. Thank you for loading Zen CartŪ." when I try and run zc_install/index.php via your browser. I get an Access Denied message,. What am I doing wrong?

Can you be more specific about the actual error message?
What's the browser URL of the page when this error appears?
What did you click on to get to that screen?

The problem might be my error in the way I am trying to upgrade the site. The actual error coming back is a 403 "Access Denied
You are not allowed to see the page. " The site is hosted on Names Co. One question are the configeration files for version 1.3.8 and 1.5. the same?

If you're setting up a separate 1.5.0 install, then you should be using different configure.php files for the new install, not copying them from the old one.

I have followed the instructions on the tutorial "How do I upgrade my site?" to the letter. When I get to step 8 run zc_install I get the following Message " Access Denied You are not allowed to see the page." the browser tab says 403 Access Denied.
The file was uploaded from my computer using Filezilla
    The hosting company is Namesco
    Server Host: arion.hosts.co.uk

There is no customisation on this install as I was going to re do that as part of the update.

Removing the extra / from the URL doesn't help either

Appears to be an issue with ownership of the directories/files (UNIX/Linux server??).

Suggest to kill that new installation via FTP and do another install. If you are still unsuccessful contact your host for help.

Having at last got my hosting company to agree the problem was their end this is the solution they suggest which seems to work "Note that most applications include a file called '.htaccess' this as the name implies controls the access by users, robots, and the server itself. This unfortunately at times it is not pre-configured for all platforms/environments.

For the time being, you can rename the file to anything you want via FTP. This will indicate the system that there is no restrictions and the page should be displayed. "

    That is NOT a solution.

The supplied .htaccess files are there for your protection. If you choose to rename them, then you're completely removing the protections they offer. If your hosting company can't handle providing a secure hosting environment, then you best consider finding one that does.
