Default IE7 and older compatibility issues

    Hi guys,

I have a question about the compatibility of my new Zen Cart store (www.ilovestroopwafels.com) with IE7 and older. I have tested and tested it on all major browsers before it went live and the site worked perfect on all of them.

This morning, I got a call from my partner who uses IE7 at his office and told me that the logo and the languages/currency shopping cart part of the header is overlapping. I told him this couldn't possibly be right and then told him to upgrade But still, I know a lot of people still use IE7, so I want the site to work on those browsers as well.

I downloaded IETester so I could see it with my own eyes. And sadly, he was right. The header is messed up completely. I have no idea where to start. I corrected all the errors on the page and it's W3C valid. I read somewhere something about using CSS for IE7 and lower, but honestly, I have no clue where to start.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

    it's W3C valid.
Unfortunately, this is the problem:) IE7's CSS support is so buggy and non-standards-compliant that you need to do acrobatics to get it to do certain things. Pretty much all IE7 bugs and quirks have been identified and workarounds posted somewhere, so a search with the right keywords to identify the problem should tell you what you can do about it.

Looks to me the only thing messed up is the currency and cart section. IE6 and 7 have issues with absolute positioning. Try changing the right: 0px; in #navCurrenciesWrapper to left: 390px; It won't end up in exactly the same place as other browsers, but no visitor will view your site in both IE7 and FF, anyway.

That worked good enough! Thank you! It's not 100%, but close enough. And I'm just not even going to bother with getting it right in IE6

    Thank you,
    Wendy

That's the right attitude, in my opinion. As long as it functions correctly in obsolete browsers, it's a waste of time trying for pixel perfection.
