Where to put uploaded images for products...?

Using V150, new install, never been upgraded.
I added the module Advanced Shipper.
I installed via FTP.

My question is when creating product categories or adding products... there is an image upload box and text that says: "Upload to directory:" and has a drop-down of totally useless, irrelevant categories that have nothing to do with my site/products/etc... where can I go to change these locations? Is it as easy as creating folders in the images folder via FTP? And can I delete the useless ones? I wasn't ready to just jump in and try it in case I broke something and it would be hard to fix...

Also, what if I want to have multiple images in a product description... do I have to independently FTP the images onto the server and link to them, or is there a way to do it through the create product interface?

Yep, FTP them in and Zen will automatically load the additional images as long as you follow the naming conventions outlined here:

This is the bit from the tutorial:

For the large image (used in popups) I use FTP and upload:
/images/large/dvd/a_bugs_life_01_LRG.gif
/images/large/dvd/a_bugs_life_02_LRG.gif
/images/large/dvd/a_bugs_life_03_LRG.gif
/images/large/dvd/a_bugs_life_04_LRG.gif

For the medium image (used as the main image on the product_info page) I upload via FTP:
/images/medium/dvd/a_bugs_life_MED.gif

NOTE: There is ONLY ONE ( 1 ) Medium Image used per Product on the Product Info page: (pages named product_info, product_music_info etc.) The naming is related directly to the original image.

Now you do not need to use subdirectories for loading your images.

All images can be loaded to:
/images
/images/large
/images/medium

I'm not sure whether he's saying that you can upload your differently-sized images (with the _LRG or _MED etc suffix) into the same folder, or whether the _LRG needs to go into /images/large and the _MED into /images/medium...? It seems to be saying both. Do I need to use the sub-directories or can I load the images all into the same folder?

_LRG needs to go in the large folder, and _MED in the medium folder. Or, you could install the Image Handler mod and let it take care of everything:

refers to the use of a /dvd/ subfolder for the first example

This in my opinion confuses the issue, introducing two new concepts at the same time without distinguishing between them. A better formulation would have been to use a product that used the basic /images/, /images/medium/ and /images/large/ folders for the first example.
