    Default Multiple Sets of Attributes

    v1.3.9h

Here I am again with another Attribute question. I have read through some of the tutorial and several pages on the forum. I'm either not
seeing my particular situation or I'm too dumb to realize it's there!

Can I create different sets of Attributes?

Here is the situation, maybe someone has a better idea of how to set it up. I have several years of magazines. I need to create a product that says "1957 Magazine", then set up attributes indicating what months I have available. Again I need to enter another product "1958 etc." with different attributes because I have different months and quantities available.

Thanks for ANY direction or help!

Create an option name like Month, with option values January, February, etc. Then add those to your products as appropriate. Each product's set of attributes will be distinct.

The easiest way to do this will be to make one complete set of attributes in a dummy product, then copy those to the rest of the products in Attributes Controller (button at top of page).

If you want to handle inventory by issue, you will need the Stock by Attributes mod in Free Addons.

I believe I understand what you you're saying in regards to using the "Option Name", that is the key to having
different "types" of Attributes to apply however I want/need them. I don't believe I'll need the add on, but thanks
for the info just incase I do.

Thanks again for the help, like so many of you, I'm wearing more hats than I can handle and it's great to
have people out there willing to help.

Question - Are you wanting to "the Magazine" as the product with the years as the first attribute and the months dependent on the year chosen? If so, that isn't available with Zen Cart yet.

You will need to set up the product as Magazine 19XX with the months as the choices.

The product is being listed with the Year and Name of the magazine. The attribute(s) are the different months that I have available. The availability of months changes with each year. I wasn't sure how to have different sets of attributes for different situations.

Thank you for responding to my "Plea for Help!", if you have any suggestions or pointers they will be welcomed.

I set up an option name of 1956 Magazine and then assigned Option Values, went to Attribute controller, added new attributes, put in my pricing and weight info. Then I used "copy all option values to another Option Name", which I did for 1957 Magazine.

When I went to Attribute Controller, added my new attributes to the product and looked at my Option Values for 1957 they were all there, but it didn't copy over my weight and pricing info, is this common or am I going at it the wrong way?

I know I can go back in and add this info, but I thought it would copy everything.

    Thanks

The price, weight, etc. are product-specific, not part of the Option Value. If you make your option name generic like Month, then you can use Attributes Controller's "copy to" button to copy all of the details to another product or a whole category of products.

I think I'm about to get Attributes under control thanks to the help I've received. I really appreciate all the pointers. I may still look at the module you recommended.

    Thank You
