I am presently using v1.3.9h and will upgrade to latest version in a few months when I have the time available to set it all up. Doing part-time studies and working full time for the next year so I need a quick fix for the moment.

The problem which I am facing at this point is with shipping. Customers are not checking out because of it and we are losing sales!

Where I am from (South Africa) our post office charges us an insurance fee based on the item value. There is also a flat rate for shipping parcels and a surcharge per kilogram after that.

We stock a large amount of items; various prices, parcel sizes and weight apply.

We would like to do the following:

Have 3 shipping types (small, medium, large). Each linking to an individual product and therefore when checking out the product only the linked shipping option would be available. BUT when combining small AND medium products for example, the MEDIUM rule would apply.

This is how each shipping type must work:

SMALL - Flat rate @ R35 + R2.50 per additional item + 2% of all the items value. Example: Purchasing two different items (both falling in the small class) with the value of R100 each will automatically give me a shipping amount of R41.50 (R35 + R2.50 + 2% of R200).

MEDIUM - (WORKS THE SAME AS SMALL) also a Flat rate @ R55 + R5 per additional item + 2% of all the items value. Example: Purchasing two different items (both falling in the medium class) with the value of R100 each will automatically give me a shipping amount of R64 (R55 + R5 + 2% of R200).

LARGE - (WORKS THE SAME AS SMALL / MEDIUM) also a Flat rate @ R85 + R7.50 per additional item + 2% of all the items value. Example: Purchasing two different items (both falling in the medium class) with the value of R100 each will automatically give me a shipping amount of R96.50 (R85 + R7.50 + 2% of R200).

COMBINED ITEMS: When a customer checks out SMALL and MEDIUM items the MEDIUM rule must apply. But the LARGE rule must apply, when checking out any combination of SMALL, MEDIUM and LARGE items.

When creating / editing a product, I would like to have a field “shipping class” where you select which option must be linked to it.

If there is a shipping module that can do this, please point me in the right direction as I have found none. I have also search and read various threads, but haven’t found anything similar to what we require. Or does the new version allow for this?

I have very little knowledge with PHP and therefore would appreciate any advice and help offered to get this up and running as quickly as possible.
