    Default attribute of an attribute?

I'm working on a furniture store shopping cart. Items can have multiple attributes but then those attributes can have attributes (if that makes sense).

For instance, a headboard can have both fabric & color attributes. Each fabric comes in its own set of colors.

So, I'd have a Fabric drop down: Linen or Velvet
Linen comes in blue & green
Velvet comes in red, purple, green

Does anyone know how I would accomplish this?

    Thank you!

You can't, with Zencart. That's called 'dependent attributes' and isn't available in the current Zencart version.

I'll trust stevesh about the latest version since I haven't tested it yet with this feature, but the prior version (v1.3.9h) can handle it without any problems. You would use Stock by Attributes module and Dynamic Dropdowns, both from the Free Add Ons.

However, you're advised to use the latest version so it's your call...

1.3.9h and 1.5.0 are the same in this respect. I assumed the OP was asking about a situation where the selection of one attribute resulted in the display of a certain set of other attibutes. That can't be done in any Zencart version.

If that's not what he/she was asking, balihr's solution would work in either Zencart version.

Hm... Perhaps I don't understand what you just wrote...

But, if you're saying that the second attribute can't depend on the first, I can't agree. Well, it's not a standard out-of-the-box feature, but can easily be achieved using the two add ons I've mentioned. Take a look at this here, although maybe not very representative since most of the stuff is out of stock (and I built that site over 2 years ago)... Anyway, you must first select size and then color. The color dropdown depends on the size chosen.

So, what OP asked about CAN be achieved, and it's rather easy to do it.

Might be me who doesn't understand, and websites presented in a language I don't understand are surprisingly difficult to navigate , but I can't find a product where the optiions in the 'Color' dropdown (Boja) change depending on the selection in the Size dropdown (Velicina).

As I said, it will not be very representative since most of the stuff is out of stock. Only the black products are in stock, other colors don't show since it's out of stock.

However, this is just for you.

Take another look at the URL.
I just added "Red to Size M" and "Blue to XL"

Please let me know after you take a look so I can remove those options, it's a live store.

I stand corrected. If there's anything one needs to do to achieve that function other than install the two mods you mentioned, you might let us know. There are a lot of Zenners who would like to be able to do that.

Always nice to tutor a respected member of the community such as you.

No, that's all there is to it. Stock by Attributes takes care of the attribute combinations and Dynamic Dropdowns takes care of dependant attributes. It's a rather simple install if you know what you're doing.

I've done it quite a few times before, but the administration isn't very friendly if you have a lot of products since you have to do it one by one.
Also, I'm not sure if it can handle a set of 3 attributes, I've never used more than 2.

Thank you both so much! I was away for the weekend & only got a chance to check this post now. I wasn't able to see a working version of balihr's example as it's already down but trust you both that it was working at one time. :)

I will be trying this out on the site I'm working on in the next couple of days~ I will need to make it work for more than 2 attributes so we'll see how that goes! (i.e. size, fabric, color).

I'm also being asked to display attribute images based on their dependencies BEFORE anything is chosen.

Any ideas? I've been racking my brain trying to figure this out.

I've attached a screenshot of what I'm talking about in the event that it helps.

Again - thank you so much!
