There's only a small bit of truth in those statements: yes the site's performance will slow down if there is a huge number of debug logs.

BUT there will ONLY be debug logs if there are actual errors on the site. A default clean install of the current version of Zen Cart (ie: v1.5.0 as of today) does NOT trigger any debug logs.
So, any problems that are showing in the logs are a result of sloppy coding on the part of whoever has been customizing the site or its addons.

I suppose this merely exposes that the folks at rubikintegration have a lot of code problems :O

Thanks I was hoping you or Ajeh would weigh in here.. My gut feeling was that if there are error logs, then there are issue that need to be resolved.. PERIOD.. resolve the issues, not more errors.. I don't see the error log as being the BIG issue this article proclaims it is, but I just wanted to get some additional feedback on this. My initial reaction was I felt that the article tells only PART of the story, and without the right context it will lead folks to some incorrect conclusions being drawn.

That's correct. The author of that article has told only a small part of the story, which has resulted in fearmongering instead of actually being helpful.
Typical behavior of the Press, not of someone who's actually trying to be helpful.

Most unfortunate really. If they wanted to be truly value-add to the ZC community they would give guidance on how to resolve the problems being reported in the logs.

Besides, if the site is encountering errors or warnings, that's gonna slow the server down PERIOD. Merely hiding the problems DOES NOT speed things up. That's like slapping another bandage on top of one that's covering an infection, instead of cleaning out the infection in the first place.

Thanks for confirming my own conclusions Dr Byte.. The fearmongering description rings very true for me..

FYI, as of v1.5.1, the "debug logs" are relocated to the /logs/ folder instead of the /cache/ folder, which will nullify the concerns in that blog post.
