Attributes and Display Prices

I hope someone can help me out. I am trying to understand the attribute display price. When the price is displayed, it includes (adds in) the base price. For example, the item is displayed as "starting at $75.00." It appears that my size attributes (small-$30 and large $45) are being added together to form this "starting at" price.

However, when I select "no" so the base price won't be added to the attribute price, the "starting at" headline is removed. I WANT this headline, but want the lowest price to be listed not the combined total.

I've read through several responses and have viewed many tutorials and I'm still not getting the answer I need. I am brand new to Zen Cart and finding this very, very frustrating as the answer is not readily available.

Can someone provide easy, step by step instructions on how to make the "starting at" display price work?

A link to your site would help, but it sounds like what you want is 'Priced by Attribute', which is an option in the screen where you create the product. The idea is that you make the product 'Priced by Attribute and set the base price to 0.00. The lowest attribute price will display as the Starting at: price, like so:
