out of stock message not showing

The out of stock message is not showing for some items. I can not work out why.

That item says it has 1 units in stock.
If you put in 2 or more and click add to cart, it allows it, but it should give an out of stock message.

That item says it has 1 units in stock.
If you put in 2 or more and click add to cart, it gives you an error like it should

Products marked with *** are out of stock or there are not enough in stock to fill your order.
Please change the quantity of products marked with (***). Thank you

It seems that all the items I added under the Babyblue -> boys category are working and showing the out of stock error message. But everywhere else it does not give an error, and allows you the person to buy more than the max qty.

Any ideas? Is this an error on my end or is this a bug?

Switch to the Classic Template ... does it work?

What version Zen Cart are you using?

Clean install or an Upgrade?
