help question USPS flat rate and dimesions

First of all I want to mention that I am not very experienced if at all with Zen Cart for the deeper stuff.

I am using the USPS newest shipping estimator/module to show the customer the available methods and rates.

What happens is that [best Way] always shows up with $5 but that is often not correct. Could be a small box medium box large box which have different prices. This only shows within Florida.
Question is how can I configure that this shows up correctly and add carton dimensions or some way to reflect the cost for the individual carton/size.

Or how can I take this off all together if there is no solution to it??

Sorry for the question but I really do not get it how to set it up that it adds a carton or reflects the correct cost based on either weight or item.

Can someone give me a rundown for dummys??

BTW cart is currently not open for public just yet.

    Thanks a million in advance

    Ruth

We use the addon mentioned by stevesh and it works very well for us in filtering items by volume. Doing that removes the smaller flatrate boxes from the choices presented to the customer when the items added to the cart exceed the volume of the box. It includes volumes for small, med, large, regional a and regional b boxes.

It does require a bit of work and tweaking of your individual product weight/volume. The addon requires a sql modification (included with the addon) to allow the 6th-11th digits to the right of the decimal weight to be used for product volume in cubic inches.

This module HAS NOT been updated to include the Jan 2012 USPS changes but those changes mainly affect existing International first class packages and the newly added products.

In your example, FlatRate does not mean USPS flatrate. It means that you will ship any package for a flatrate of $xx.xx regardless of size.
