PayPal Module Question

I am currently using PayPal Website Payments Standard. It has been working well for two years and suddenly I'm getting all kinds of reports of customers who cannot complete checkout and pay with PayPal. I have a couple questions:
1) Is there a new problem with PayPal Website Payments Standard?
2) Is there any advantages to switch to PayPal Express Checkout? If so what are they? Any disadvantages?
3) If I switch to PayPal Express Checkout am I just going to get a different set of problems or is it more problem free?
4) Does PayPal charge a monthly fee for Express Checkout like they do with Website Payments Pro?

This depends on what you consider 'new'.
There have been many reported problems and issues with PayPal Standard over the years. No one recommends this method be used these days.

There are NO disadvantages, but many advantages, not the least being reliability.

Make the switch. You won't regret it.

No.

Using 1.3.9h. In a previous post it was advised that I should change from PayPal Website Payments Standard (because I was told it has issues in ZenCart, and I am having issues with buyers having problems completing checkout) and switch to PayPal Express Checkout.

I just called PayPal and they told me that if I use Express Checkout, only people with PayPal accounts already will be able to pay and anyone without a PayPal account who wants to pay by Credit Card will not be able to pay. Is that correct? Do I then need to switch to PayPal Payments Pro? Are there issues with that?

Anyone else using Website Payments Standard? Is it possible that my checkout issues are not really PayPal related but maybe ZenCart related? The problem is intermittent. Some buyers orders go through, some do not.

I would greatly appreciate any help and advice. Thanks.

Also, can I have Website Payments Standard and Express Checkout, or is it one or the other? Same question for Website Payments Pro and Express Checkout, can I have both?

Whoever you spoke to at PayPal is wrong. People can easily pay without a PayPal account, even when using Express Checkout.

I run Paypal IPN on multiple sites, hundreds of orders a day, never had any issues.

I think the issue may be connection related. I think Express bicommunicates so you can't lose any data with a bad web connection etc, so maybe it helps if you have a good server. Not meaning to tarnish people with a certain type of brush, but you find alot of people using cheap hosting, and complaining of slow load times etc - maybe its simply down to your server timing out.

Ive had a couple of sales drop out as people mentioned, but I contacted both customer and both said they had an issue with their computers crashing/freezing up at the time.
