That's the file I've used for other, similar scripts and it has worked. Mine don't link to an external site, though. Not sure if that's a factor. Did you add it to the correct html_header.php file? The one in your overrides directory?

Got it to work now, forgot to add 'echo' at the start.
Just wondering, does it matter where you paste the code in html_header?
