back ordered - not "out of stock"?

Is there a way to mark a product as "back ordered" and still let the customer select and pay for the item? I have a quick turnaround from my vendor and I will not be leaving a customer hanging but I would like to be able to note that if they select an item for next day that I don't have in stock, that it might take longer than the shipping options indicate.

In other words, the option to pay for an out of stock item with a note that it is being back ordered.


Currently I see an option to either show "out of stock" or not to "show out of stock" or "sold out".

Admin -> Configuration -> Stock -> Allow Checkout

That should allow your customers to purchase the item, then maybe just change the 'sold out' image to 'back ordered' or something meaningful?
