Discount coupon email HTML/CSS

Hi

Objective: To use my custom HTML/CSS template for discount coupon emails.

What have I done?

Gone to /email folder, and modified email_template_coupon.html with my own HTML and CSS and kept all the $variables that I need.

Tested the new HTML/CSS and it renders fine.

Test:

I go to Zen Cart>Admin> Gift Certs/Coupons > Coupon Admin > Discount coupon and send a discount coupon to myself by selecting my email address in the customer drop-down list.

Output:

I don't see any of my HTML/CSS in the discount email coupon.
I have checked Admin> Config > E-mail options and HTML MIME type is enabled.

It will be great if someone can tell me what am I doing wrong?

Also, on further debugging, I renamed the /email folder and then sent a discount coupon email to myself and it still worked. This tells me that the system is not referring to this folder at all when sending the discount coupon. This should not be happening as per Zen Cart documentation.

Any assistance with this matter will be highly appreciated.

Recipients will receive the email in the format that they've specified in their customer account. If they don't have an account, or have not specifically asked to receive HTML-formatted emails in their account preferences, then they will receive the non-HTML version of the email.

The "HTML MIME" setting in the Email Options screen only turns on HTML-email support so that the customers who have specifically asked for it can receive it.

Dr.Byte Thanks for the reply. I did a test run with HTML email preference selected for a test user and still don't receive the HTML email.

Thanks once again DrByte. Yes, just tried sending *other* emails to the test account and they are also non-HTML. But when I goto Admin>Customers>Edit, I can see "HTML" is checked for "Email format option (Please see attached screen shot)

It is clear that the system is sending text only emails inspite of "Use MIME type HTML" set to true under Admin>Catalog>Email Options.

I wonder what might be causing this bug...

Turn on Email Archiving, and use the Email Archive Manager addon to see whether Zen Cart is actually sending the email out with HTML content in it or not. If ZC is preparing and sending HTML content but the HTML part is being stripped off by your email server before delivery, then you'll need to deal with your email server administrator to fix that problem.
