Reward Points and Tax

I've tried searching and posting on the reward point thread, and contacting one of the original coders of the mod, to no avail.

Do I need to update code that calculates tax to take reward points in to account?

Sub-Total : £20.00
Reward Points : -£10.00
VAT @ 20% : £4.00
Total £14.00


It should obviously be a total of £12 and with a VAT total of £2 where am I going wrong?

I know the author of this module was on here this morning. I don't know why he doesn't answer anymore in this thread.

I would have thought this is a simple problem, tax is correctly calculated when group pricing is used, so if someone could point me in the right direction I'm sure I can fix this issue.

Try this go to your admin/configuration/Reward Points and set the Allow Redeem of Reward Points on Order Total or Subtotal to 1 Against the full order and see if that does anything different. If that don't work look at the Advanced Reward Point Calculation Rules.

It makes no difference, the problem is, the tax calculation doesn't take reward points into the equation, I wonder if I need to modify the tax calculation code to include reward points in the calculation.

Can't you enable tax on your dev site and see if you can recreate my problem to make sure it isn't me having an issue.

This is what mine looks like when I calculate tax in my total.

Shipping (UPS Ground ($9.81) Insurance Included + Fuel Surcharge):

NC Sales Tax + California Sales Tax + NC Sales Tax + California Sales Tax:

As you can see it totals right. It has to do with something you did wrong.

In the UK we have VAT, value added tax.

20% of the value of the good or service is added to the total.

Product cost - Reward Points = Sub-Total

Subtotal + Tax = Total

If reward points are used, the value of the product is less, therefore less tax should be charged.

Taking money off the total after the calculation of tax is wrong.

Tax must be calculated based on the value of the goods and services. If reward points are used to lower the cost of goods, then the tax rate must reflect the new sub-total.

ot_group_pricing works fine with tax,


£44.99 = Sub-Total
-£6.75 = Group Discount
£0.00 = Free Shipping
£7.65 = Product VAT
£45.89 = Total

Doing the same checkout with reward points instead of group discount gives this

£44.99 = Sub-Total
-£6.75 = Reward Points
£0.00 = Free Shipping
£9.00 = Product VAT (tax calculation not taking reward points into equation)
£47.24 = Total

Can you see the problem?
