Default Re: Question about Images on FTP

Thanks for all your help here. I really do appreciate it.

To clarify, I don't need to move any images, or change any images in the current product listings. I can leave the 2000 images in the existing images folder and if I can create a subfolder for new images I can put put that address into any new product listings.

So, what I need if possible is a step by step on how to create the subfolder for the new images. As I said I am technologically handicapped, so telling me to "create a subfolder" assumes I know how to create a subfolder in FTP, which I do not.

    Thanks.

You can create the new subfolder eother in FTP or in your hosting control panel's file manager. We can't tell you the exact steps without knowing which program you are using, but in Filezilla FTP, you would bring up the site root in your top right pane, say /public_html/ if that is where your ZC is installed, then go to the /images/ folder under that. You should now see a bunch of subfolders like /banners/, /medium/, /large/, etc. in the lower right pane. Right-click on the top ".." folder in that pane and enter the name of the new subfolder in the popup.

I love how nobody was able to answer the original question.

FTP doesn't have 2000 file limit. It is server configuration that can be changed by your host, that is if they want to do it for you. I just checked my site. I have one folder with 16,000+ images and yes that is all for just one brand.

So obviously you can see more than 2000, you just have to raise the issue to your host. Now if you are on a shared server, most likely they won't change the limit because it will effect all the sites on that server.

As far as sub-folders, It is a good idea and I use it per brand.

So I tried the directions that gjh42 gave me for FileZilla, but when I right click on the top ".." folder I get the following choices: "Enter Directory" or "Create Directory". Which one should I choose? I'd sure like to know what's after that too, because I am 56 years old and not too website proficient. I'm trying though. Thanks for the help!

You will be "creating" a directory here.

Once you have the new subfolder, go into it and upload or move your images into it.
