Product quantities at attribute level

I have been asked to maintain a Zen shop (with no previous experience in this product). Some products have been set up with two attributes - colour, size. Some colours and some sizes are currently out-of-stock but I cannot find a way of preventing potential customers from putting these OOS items in their shopping Basket.
As quantities do not seem to be at attribute level, whereas a shop would normally require this facility, is there a way I can address this problem.

Depends on what version of Zencart you're using.

If it's 1.3.9h, this should work:

If it's 1.5.0, there's a project underway to create a compatible version here (currently in beta):

If your Zencart version is older thatn 1.3.9h, you should upgrade before doing anything else.
