    Ok.
Seriously this is a NON ISSUE if you simply use Image Handler as it convert your small and medium images to JPGs OR it can create the small and medium images from the large image you upload.. then there is no need to try and work out your mixed filetype issue..

Otherwise unless someone shares the code to do this, you will have to hire someone to provide the code changes you need if you really MUST have this change..

I have a fantastic, powerful, bulk image editor/converter software program, but that's not my need.

Thanks, but I think that you did not read my post.

As I stated, all of my small and medium images are grayscale .gif (you could say clip art, but basically they are scans from the mfg catalog that has a basic pencil outline drawing of the part. My large images are all .jpg camera photographs of the actual part.

So, HOW IS IMAGE HANDLER GOING TO CREATE small and medium GRAYSCALE GIF IMAGES WITH TEXT FROM MFG CATALOG SCANS (that are basically outline drawings of the product) from LARGE, COLOR ACTUAL PRODUCT PHOTOGRAPHS?

They are 2 different images as well as 2 different file types, and the medium is no good for a large image due to what it is, and the large image is no good for a medium, nor small image due to what and how it is, but that's really not the point nor the issue...

Also, I should clarify that 100% of my small and medium images are the gifs, and 100% of the large images are the photograph jpgs, so I'm not looking for a mod that is so complex as to try to recognize mixed image types throughout the different uses of image handling.

Just a simple extension ignore, or swap, or whatever for the large *_LARGE.* image program section.

I appreciate you taking the time to help me out, but perhaps I caused you a bit of confusion by not explaining the situation very well.

Anyway, if I'm wrong that something like this is not a fairly simple code edit, then I guess that I'll just have to live with unnecessary large file sizes, unnecessary bandwidth usage, slower page loading, and poor image quality. I think making everything jpg would look better than converting the photographs into gifs...

On screen and in though it just seemed like it wouldn't be a complicated code edit.

I'm not confused at all and I read your post and clearly understood your issue.. (and for the record it wasn't MY suggestion to convert photos into GIFs) I think the issue here is you are not clear on what Image Handler WILL DO.. You said you are "not looking for a mod that is so complex as to try to recognize mixed image types throughout the different uses of image handling" and you think you will end up with "unnecessary large file sizes, unnecessary bandwidth usage, slower page loading, and poor image quality" but you really need to look at Image Handler.. I think it WILL resolve your issues management because that's what it does.. I suggest downloading it, and reading the readme -- especially the usage section.. there are a TON of little used features that Image Handler has that will help solve your issues).. and this is part of the reason you are not getting a a response.. No one wants to reinvent the wheel.. Image Handler is the wheel..

    Thanks again,

Okay, I downloaded it, and read the readme, but did not install it yet because I would need to clarify my understanding of plugin's capibilities...

So, basically lets say it like this... I sell miniature gears...

_LRG.jpg = I took a macro photograph of each gear that I have in stock 1000 x 1000 px original size.

_MED.gif = I cut/crop an outline drawing out of the scan of the mfg catalog page for each gear (that has tech specs gear count size text with it). 450x450 original size.

small image is the _MED gif reduced to 150x150. Still very readable.

All files have same name, but with the _MED or _LRG.

All 3 image files are uploaded into their correct folders.

So basically you are saying that Image Handler 4 can be set up so that for gear100-35 with the images gear100-35.gif, gear100-35_MED.gif, and gear100-35_LRG.jpg uploaded,

I can specify .gif for small images and have in the images folder gear100-35.gif

and set up gif setting also for medium images for gear100-35_MED.gif in images/medium

and set up jpg for all large images for gear100-35_LRG.jpg in images/large

and when I am on the product page and click on the medium size image, it will bring up the popup with gear100-35_LRG.jpg? Basically with the settings set up in a way, it will look for the file names. It's not going to look to create a medium nor create a small image based off reducing the _LRG image?

It's almost like I have multiple images in the way that the _LRG image is different than the _MED or small image, but I basically don't want multiple images, just an actual photograph for the _LRG image in place of the clipart-like-ish medium and small images.

(FYI, it's over a decade ago, so my memory is a bit foggy, but I believe when using miva cart with my book business, I didn't use their image handling system. Instead I edited the global head, pasted in a javascript for popups, wrote a html link into the product page around the image tolken, set up an extra field with the relative url and used a tolken to place that extra field into the link, and when you clicked on the image, a popup of a larger image came up for that book)

Not to be a stickler here.. but you really should ask Image Handler questions on the Image Handler support thread.. any further discussion on this is a LOT off topic from what this thread is supposed to be about.. Please repost your question on the Image Handler support thread..

But, what I am discussing appears to be the one thing that there is not a little feature for, nor can it help solve the above in "ninguna manera" right?

Image Handler can meet your needs. You think the module is too much for your needs.. You have a not so simple need for which the simple solution is installing Image Handler.. My guess is that no one has provided you the code you are looking for because Image Handler already does what you are asking after, and noone wants to reinvent the wheel (especially for free).. If you don't want to install Image Handler, and no one contributes the code you want, then your other option is to hire someone to write the code you do need..
