Default blank page - exhausted all the possibilities

I uploaded version 1.3.9h in to a new folder on an existing website. Edited and transferred the configure files. Ran the upgrade on a clone of the database which was 1.3.7.

I can get into admin with no problem and see no problems.

The site, however, only shows a blank page. There are no error messages in the cache folder so I uploaded the local/configure.php and still see nothing at all besides a blank page. The cache folder does show the upgrade exceptions so I know it's writeable (and the install said it was)

I had not put up any files from the original site so this should be a fresh install of zencart. I have uploaded it a couple of times - even unzipped a new version to upload the last time and no change.

I did a file compare on the catalog configure file in case I had made a mistake and couldn't see it. Nothing.

I'm getting close to starting all over again but before I did, I figured I would give someone a chance to think on this besides me.

Probably was missing files from a bad upload.

used the same upload on the last try before deleting them all so wouldn't think so but I'm so regretting this job. Gets worse - way worse and there's no help for it. Cursing a former hosting company we all know so well and anybody that's ever worked on this particular site.

Ah... the joys of inheriting "problem" sites.

We're seriously thinking of extracting ourselves from this market, though one of my colleagues suggested we ask for a substantial escrow fee before we undertake them.

A great portion of my work comes to me because of either problems a site is experiencing or the loss of the most recent so-called zen cart coder the website has lost or fired. I do get most if not all of money up front but I have seriously misjudged this one and it's costing me big bucks. I haven't done that in a long time. I wish I had not answered the phone at all Friday. Dang me for wanting to help people! I will live a much better life in my reincarnation - maybe like a worm with no worries.
