    Default Data Base set up

    Hello,

Just reviewed all the requirements to install Zen cart but facing a problem on set up. When reaching "Database Set up" tab, I get an error with the following.
The database type you have selected does not appear to be supported by the PHP version you have installed. You may need to check with your hosting provider to check that the database type you have selected is supported. If this is your own server, then please ensure that support for the database type has been compiled into PHP, and that the necessary extensions/modules/dll files are being loaded (esp check php.ini for extension=mysql.so, etc).

So called support (1and1.com) to learn more about the problem and was told to complete a file called web.config. Problem is, nowhere in the Zen cart manual it was asked to update such file.

    What am I missing?

    thanks,
    Dan

web.config files are used for Windows/IIS hosting. So that suggests to me that they're giving you advice based on you having a Windows hosting account.

If you don't have a solid technical requirement to use Windows-based hosting, then I strongly recommend that you avoid it. Use Linux instead.

Zen Cart assumes that you and your hosting provider have worked together to ensure that the server has MySQL support active and enabled and available to PHP. The Zen Cart documentation DOES NOT provide instructions on setting up MySQL, because that's the job of the hosting company, not the storeowner.
If your hosting company cannot set your server up to use MySQL for you, then you need to see that as a sign of incompetence on their part, and switch to a hosting company who knows what they're doing, before you go any further.
