    Default V1.5.0 and plugins

Well, I have been working on a clean new install of V1.5.0 and I am happy so far. What I am missing are plugins. I have tried installing some of the plugins I have used in the past to make my e-carts easier to manage and so far I am having about 0% luck. Is V1.5.0 so different from 1.3.9 that plugins won't install and work.

Most of the plugins that I have tried seem to always fail to add the requisite items to the admin menus which means that there is no way to configure or turn on the plugins once they are loaded.

Anyone experiencing the same kinds of problems.

There is a 'sticky' thread in forums for mods that work with V1.5
    Good luck.

... and don't forget the support thread for the mod itself, which might have advice, instructions or warnings about 1.5.0.

Zen Cart volunteers are working on getting all the contributions 1.5.0 ready but there are still some that haven't been done yet.

To answer a specific point in your question @dkhoward: the way admin page menus are created was changed in 1.5.0, so mods that rely on the old mechanism of putting a file in admin/includes/boxes/... will not work.
