Add Products Category to Products Area on Main Page???

Hi all,

I inherited a website and I am trying to manipulate the products listing on the home page.

First, let me say that I am using the "Classic Contemporary Green" template v1.3.5, and the area was originally labeled "New Products for (Month Here)". See attached template preview screen shot.

Second, there are 0 products listed in Featured Products, however, 10 sort of random products get displayed on the home page (www.SusieCShore.com). The reason I say "sort of random" is because the products are all from the same category, even though there are 3 other categories.

Fourth, the template does not have any custom modules installed.

Lastly, I am receiving the "Empty Admin Activity Log table from the database" error message... is it possible that the database needs to be emptied to display the "newest products" that have been entered? Based on the template image (see above) the area appears to be based on product age. But I am not 100% sure.
