    help question Changing the search bar title to a simple page title.

    Hi from Ireland! I am new to Zencart...

    My website doesn't perform well when searched for. Example - a search for 'Girls bracelets' brings me in on page twenty two and 'girls jewellery'...well, I can't be found!

    I can't find anything really different in terms of performance against my competitors EXCEPT that when you search for 'girls bracelets', the page that is found has something like

    http://www.jewels4girls.net/bracelets-girls.php note...bracelets-girls.php

    and mine has;

    www.minibella.co.uk/

    When you go to the product page, you will see something like;

    http://minibella.co.uk/index.php?mai...ndex&cPath=1_6

    Whereas I would like something like;

    http://minibella.co.uk/bracelets-girls.php

    I am convinced that if this is resolved, I would get better rankings as all my successful competitors seem to have this simple searchbar description and all the low performing sites have search bar results such as mine!

    Can anyone point me in the right direction? ...pweeeze???

    Most here, including me, will tell you that URL re-writing is a waste of time and effort. The sites you mentioned may just have been around longer than yours and do a better job with the content on their pages. If you're determined to rewrite your site's URLs to 'human-friendly versions, this is considered the best mod:

    http://www.zen-cart.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=889

    Again, my advice would be to work on your content (product descriptions, etc.).

    If you decide to use the mod, please come back in six months or so and let us know how things worked.

    Leave the URL's just as they are... They do not have the slightest influence on search Engine indexing or ranking.

    The search engines are only interested in what is on the generated page, not the "colour" of the front door that leads to it. If the code builds the page properly (and zencart code does a fine job), then the search engines will get all they need when they visit your site.

    "Pretty" url's do not make any difference to your page rank on search engines.

    Some people have bright blue doors on the front of their houses, others have green doors. Google does not care about the door (the URL)... they just use it to get into your site, in the same way that visitors use a house's front door.

    I don't get to a house with a blue door and say... "Oh dear... a blue door. I'm stuck..."

    I just knock, and the owner lets me in.

    Same with URL's... if google knocks and you let them in, they are quite happy.
