    Default Changing Themes

Hopefully an easy one for those in the know.

If I add a new theme to my website and then decide it isn't quite right and I want to switch back to my old theme - will the old theme need to be reconfigured or does it 'remember' all the settings I had set up when using it???

Which 'settings' are you referring to?

As a general rule themes can be enabled and disabled as desired. For example it isn't unusual for a store to have a 'christmas theme' or a 'halloween theme' and the merchant will enable these as needed, and switch back to their usual theme when the event is over.

There are some settings that are common to all themes (such as the side boxes) but these are best considered as 'content' rather than 'theme'.

    Hopefully this answers your question.

    Cheers

    Rod,

    Thanks for the reply.
    That all makes sense.
What about any changes I may have made to .php files under the old theme??

(Basically I don't want to install a new theme and then decide it isn't quite what I want - then flick back to the old theme to find I have lost any changes made to .php files etc)

If they are INSIDE the theme folder there shouldn't be any problem, meaning you have used the override system; i.e. you edited the tpl_header.php which is in includes/templates/YOUR_FIRST_TEMPLATE/common
When you switch back to YOUR_FIRST_TEMPLATE it will still be there.

Anyhow to play it safe make a full back-up of your files, and database, then test changing templates, and you will see it yourself.
