Can't find the setting to remove the store demo.
Can't find the setting to remove the store demo.
That's because there isn't one.
A quick re-install using zc_install/index.php will clean your entire store's database and let you de-select the demo data so you can start with a fresh blank empty store.

Hi DrByte, how are you?
I too am looking to remove the DEMO installs as sill Simple Script does NOT give you a choice whether you want or don't want to install them, it just installs them.
Your idea to remove them sounds excellent, I just have a few questions please..
1) Do you use the database details that SimpleScript has created?
Regards,

Just did it, All good, thanks DrByte for your Sound Advise :)
I used the database details from the SimpleScript (Configure.php), and it just wiped all the Demo stuff from it.
Cheers,
I installed through SimpleScripts so that I wouldn't have to go through all those installation steps. It's all done for me. So my only option is to go through and delete everything product by product and attribute by attribute?
The implementation guide says the following:
Zen Cart® comes with a set of demo data that allows you to explore the inbuilt functionality of the
application out of the box. You may find it useful load this demo data so that you can get comfortable
with the application before you actually start to build your own store.
The demo data/products can be removed at a later date.
That would lead one to think there was an easily accessible way to remove.
Yes, indeed they "can be removed at a later date". Manually.
You'll need to delete them manually. Every category, product, attribute, option name, option value, and all the images, etc.
Or, you could use the automated way I described earlier.
You REALLY ought to get familiar with doing installs by hand anyway. You'll appreciate having that skill when it comes time to do your next upgrade. You SHOULD NEVER USE SIMPLESCRIPTS TO DO AN UPGRADE.

Please define what you mean by a "quick re-install using zc_install/index.php" If you are suggesting I uninstall the entire installation, I've already done all my customizations and custom template/css etc. Or are you suggesting just reinstalling that one file?
Clarification, this was a new install through SimpleScripts and I understand I cannot do upgrade through that same process. I also have the full downloaded version of 1.5, just didn't use it when I found out I could do new install with SimpleScripts.
The quick re-install is only applicable if you don't yet have customizations or real products, etc. You will need to do as the Doctor says.
Most of what the installer asks you is stuff you have to enter in any case, except for the database - and if you let the auto-installer handle that, you will be clueless about how to access your database when you need to later. The boxes that can be auto-filled by the installer usually don't need to be touched by you, so you can ignore most of them unless you have a reason to change them.so that I wouldn't have to go through all those installation steps
