Gift certificate purchase for out of stock line. Put credit back onto GC ?

Hi There,

Using Zen Cart 1.39h (I know I should upgrade..will do when boss allows)

Have a customer use 'part' of gift certificate for a purchase that is out of stock and we won't be re stocking.

Customer has $199.00 gift certificate.
Purchased a product the value of 89.00 using part of the gift certificate.
The line is out of stock and we won't be re stocking.

How can I go about cancelling/refunding the 89.00 amount back onto the gift certificate?

Or must I create a new certificate the value of 89.00?
If I do create another certificate can 2 certificates be used at the same time during a purchase?

Easiest way is to issue them another gift certificate, from your "mail gift certificate" screen.

Customers don't use any specific gift certificate on a purchase.
They redeem a gift certificate which creates a gift-certificate *balance* in their account. They can apply however much of that balance they wish during any checkout.

Ok...so if I create 'another' certificate for 89.00 (Used from their original 199.00) this means their balance will then go back to their original amount of 199.00 and provide them with a new certificate code?

If you use the admin menu to mail (email) them a new gift certificate, it will contain a link that they can click on to redeem that gift certificate. Doing that will increase their gift certificate balance.
