Altering Quantity field from text input to dropdown on a per-product basis?

Here's my challenge:

My client wants to offer a product (skeins yarn) in bundles/packages of various sizes based on the size of the garment they are creating.

For example, a small size sweater might require 2 skeins, a medium 3, large 4, etc.

We'd like to alter the quantity field from a text entry to a pulldown and label the options accordingly "size small - 2 skeins", "size medium - 3 skeins"

Is there a plugin that would allow this kind of quantity choice on specific products (and the ability to customize it for each product)?

I think the easiest way is to set-up attributes for this and set the "Product Qty Maximum" for the product to 1. This way the input box will disappear all together, and the customer can use a pulldown from the attributes for the quantity.

Ah - -just the kind of answer I was hoping to get -- thanks.

One more wrinkle:

There is a second attribute for this product -- color -- and we need the amount of product removed from inventory (by the size attribute) in to be reflected in "Stock by Attributes" under the color category. How can we make that happen?

Glad to help.
I think the easiest way is to use SBA for that, but a have not really used it for some time. It is said that there isn't a real stable version for 1.5 yet, but you could do a search for that.
