This error message is on the admin:
Warning: require(includes/initsystem.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/content/D/r/a/Dragonsfly2112/html/*****/includes/application_top.php on line 126

Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required 'includes/initsystem.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/php5_3/lib/php') in /home/content/D/r/a/Dragonsfly2112/html/*****/includes/application_top.php on line 126

And my site now shows a blank screen -- no more error messages there though.

I thought a new install does not call for making a new directory, and comparing old files to new files, making a second database, etc. I could just install and then load and go.

There is no initsystem.php file in v1.3.7

So, you're using the v1.3.8 version of the application_top files, presumably a consequence of installing a 1.3.8 patch over a 1.3.7 site.

Do you have a backup of your 1.3.7 files so you can revert back to that, and then apply the 1.3.7 version of the PHP 5.2 patch onto it? http://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.p...487#post804487 (which involves manual edits instead of replacing files from a zip)

You can TRY that, but I would never attempt that without having a good backup on-hand in case things are suddenly worse than before you started.
There's a reason why there are detailed articles written on smart upgrade approaches.

Yes indeed I have a backup of my 1.3.7 files that I can reinstall those files.

I will then go to the link you provided, and follow the instructions, and I will then set the php to 5.2, and cross my fingers.

    Many thanks,
    Cheryl
