Default Setting default for Column Layout Grid Product Listing

    Hi All,

I am discovering Zen-Cart and came to a very handy plugin which allows me to show my products in a Grid instead of the default vertical product listing, which you probable all already knew! :)

I installed this tool at 5eurodivas.nl and the deault is still set to list the products in a 'list'. Is it possible to change the default to 'grid' so that people can switch to list if they want and not the other way around?

Really looking forward to receiving some help from your side!

    Thanks a lot in advance.

    Cheers, Claudia

Installing the mod should have added a couple of options in Admin - Configuration - Product Listing which will allow you to select Columns rather than Rows and specify the number of columns.

I've seen someone else asking to change the default from rows to columns... I don't understand why this is an issue, as the admin is the only one who can set this, and will only need to do it once. It sounds like you expect the customers to be able to choose the way they view products. There may be a mod that does that, but Column Layout Grid does not.

Actually, the newest version of this plugin supports the thing that customers are able to view the way they see products. I would rather use the previous version of this plugin, but there are .bak files within the plugin and I don't know how to handle these...

I think this is an option after running the SQL patch, isn't it? After I run the SQL patch I got an error; WARNING: An Error occurred, please refresh the page and try again...

Now i don't have this option in the Admin..

I hadn't noticed that change in the new version. I will also use the previous version, as I don't particularly want visitors messing with the way the product listing is displayed. You can ignore the .bak file.

I'm looking into restoring admin control to this version of Column Grid. The user setting is a nifty idea, but should absolutely not remove all admin discretion. It should have been submitted as a new mod if the fundamental operation was going to be changed.

The SQL and admin part was easy; now I'm going to look at the PHP files and see what it will take to implement the settings. No timetable, as I will have to work around other commitments.

The PHP changes were minimal. Updating the readme was the most time-consuming part of the process. My test site is not available at the moment, so I would appreciate it if someone would try it out and post with observations.
