application error Unable to process PayPal Payment

My site was recently hacked and I have been doing cleanup and have the site back online.
The only problem is with payment processing.
After going through the checkout process (utilising payal option), when I confirm the order I get the following message:
you don't have permission to access "http://www.paypal.com.au/cgi-bin/webscr" on this server.
Permissions on the CGI-bin folder are 755

    Any help greatly appreciated.

P.S Will update to latest version when all this gets sorted out.
    Thanks!

Three problems there, the first being that it sounds like you're probably using Website Payments Standard instead of Express Checkout. Switching to Express Checkout should be your first course of action. That involves clicking Remove on the Payments Standard module, and clicking Install on the Express Checkout module and following the setup instructions (which are shown in your admin and also at www.zen-cart.com/getpaypal ).

The other problems are that your error message info says http instead of https, and it uses .com.au instead of just .com. These are both indicators that you're using Website Payments Standard, as mentioned above, and you've entered invalid URL information in the settings. If you insist on using Payments Standard, then you'll need the correct URL. But Zen Cart will normally produce the correct URL as long as you've not given bad URL info in your module settings. If you still have problems with that, contact PayPal directly.

Thanks Dr Byte for replying so quickly. I rang PayPal and found out that they had changed this:

    www.paypal.com.au/cgi-bin/webscr

    to this:

    https://securepayments.paypal.com/cgi-bin-acquiringweb.

The customer support said that this change was done 10 days ago and certain issues had come to light but they were relying on customers ringing in to address individual problems. What the??

The only further issue I had was when I changed the url I put in the full string in Payments Module and Zen Cart put in an additional http:// automatically, so I just went back and deleted the https:// and it worked.
I hope that this is OK.

I was also wondering if you would be available for a site upgrade from 1.3.9h to current. I am going in hospital and would love this chore done asap instead of me doing it when I get out. I am in Australia. Or maybe you could recommend someone?

I appreciate all the help you give in this forum. I read many of your posts when I have an issue. Thanks heaps for saving me many headaches.

    You were given wrong information.

Here's the correct technical answer that you should have been given:

    should be
    "www.paypal.com/au/cgi-bin/webscr"

Apparently PayPal's internal redirects aren't working correctly for that. Same problem exists with their .co.uk redirect.

I rang PayPal and they said that they changed this to the one I indicated around 11 days ago??

All seems to be working OK??
