Cannot log into my admin

I noticed other people have had the same problem, but I am new at this and I honestly don't understand the answeres they were given.

So my problem is, I cannot log ingot my admin site. The email password reset never sends me any email. I have read some tutorials about a php and I really do not understand them. Just getting set up has been a real challenge.

Ok, I was so irritated when I posted this, I didn't take time to read all the background info. Here are all the details:

Also, I did find the post you referred me to, but like I said, I dont understand it. Really.

I installed the Zencart and followed all instructions. I got all the way to trying to test my admin control panel. Then the little challenge box pops up but the user ID and password I put in dont work. I thought I might have used a slightly different version, like maybe ColleenOReilly instead of Colleen O Reilly, or some other variation. No dice. I dont remember setting a password, but if I had I would have used one of 2 favorites, that I use for all kinds of stuff, then made a better one once I was ready to go public. No combination of anything I could think of worked. So then I asked to have my password sent to me or reset, whichever option was offered. No email ever came.


What version of Zen Cart? 1.3x

Is it a new install or an upgrade? new

What the addons/contributions you have installed? none

What customizations have you made? none

What type of server are you using? dreamhost

Are you installing locally? what does that mean?

What operating system? Windows NP

What version of PHP is installed on the server? how would I find this out? I think its PHP5 ???

What version of MYSQL is installed on the server? MySQL 5.0

What you were doing when your problem occurred? I had just installed Zencart and was attempting to test my admin control panel for the first time

What are the steps to reproduce the problem? Go to my admin page and attempt top log in

Have you attempted to fix the problem? YES!

What steps have you taken? I have looked at a bunch of posts in this forum that I do not understand.

Any other details that might be important, i.e. the port number None that I can think of

There are some problems with the way windows deals with 1.3.x (and you should let us know what x means as it makes a big difference).

If it's a new install, why not use 1.5.1 which has some fixes in it for the windows platform install?

That sounds like a good idea. I am using Dreamhost and the version I have is the one I got form their site. I see that the version 1.5.1 needs to be downloaded. is there then a way to upload it to dreamhost?

Just FTP the files to Dreamhost. And... NEVER use an automated script from any host to install Zen Cart. Using one is like saying, "One size fits all." I'm 6'3" and the wife is 5'0". You should have been with us couch shopping:P.

You might also want to ask yourself just why you need to load to windows.

Get a copy of something like filezilla, as you will need it from time to time. You will also want to extract the files onto a directory on your computer to view the important things in the docs folder.

Just follow the steps. You'll learn a lot about the Zen Cart structure this way and learning is never a bad thing.

ok, so I download this new zencart to my laptop. Then I use FTP (YAAAAAYYYY! Something I understand!) to upload the files to Dreamhoast. Should I wipe out the old zencart by uploading directly to the same directory name? What will that do to my database? What else do I need to know?

uummmmm.... Another dumb question...... the "automated script" you mentioned is that series of windows that comes up wehn you try to install things, right? The one that says, read the policy stantement and click "yes"...what language do you want....manual or standard installation....like that. Right?

So if I guessed correctly and that is what you mean, then how do I avoid it? And what should I do instead?



OH, BTW, I fugured out how to create a new user in Dreamhost, with a brand new password, but the dang zenhost still wont let me on!

In the file you unzipped, there's a /docs/ folder.
And inside that /docs/ folder is a file named ImplementationGuide.pdf. Read that file. It contains the answers to those questions.
