Someone has added zone definitions for every country instead of just the few required ones. The problem comes in that the original language characters were used and so when the province dropdown appears, some or most can't be read. There was never a need for this and I have no clue why someone did this to this cart but I need a little information.
I'm trying to decide what's the easiest way to straighten this out. I have to immediately delete the zones for Bulgaria and Russian, those are just gooblety goop in the drop down. If I just delete those zone definitions and not touch the customers, will that cause problems for the customers on their next order? I can't see how it could since those zone definitions are not required to ship via USPS.
But then again, the provinces show up correctly in the right character set in admin - just not in the dropdown on the catalog side. So maybe a utf8 problem? If we could get those to show correctly in the dropdown, the create account problems might disappear.
I do not know when the problems started cause the site has been up a number of years. The only major thing this year was the installation of Numinix's paid Ajax Fast & Easy Checkout - where the dropdown isn't displaying properly. I got the client at about that time so that actually might the root cause of the new problems so there's another option - removing that mod. But don't know whether that would fix the problem.
So suggestions, advice?
