Slider that takes up the full width of the page

I need to create a slider that takes up the full width of the page, length of the menu bar in Andover Modern Template. If I can't find a slider, it would work to make it so that the sidebox columns(the actual table columns) do not load on the homepage only. Any help modifying the core files to do this would be appreciated. In the meantime, I am working on learning to make or finding the CSS code that will use a floating page, table or box that will go over the sidebox columns, cross browser compatible of course.Thanks.

If I can't find a suitable answer I will see if my client will allow a switch to Opencart. Zen is great for quick shopping carts and plugins, opencart is newer software but mods may be more entailed.

If you do want to turn off sidebars for the homepage, that is easily done following the comments in the top of /includes/templates/your_template/common/tpl_main_page.php (copy it from /template_default/ if you don't already have a custom copy).

There is at least one well-regarded slider in Plugins. I believe you can make it whatever width you like.
