Which stock-by-attribute is current?

I need to add a stock-by-attribute module. It doesn't have to be fancy, it's just that I only have one of each attribute and I need the computer to keep track of which one is sold.
There are a few on the add-on modules list, some look fairly old, the newest looks like it's for 1.3.9 and is more intensive than I need? What's the msot basic, most up-to-date, easiest to learn for a newb (the built-in-attributes took 2 years and a lot of head-pounding before it suddenly clicked for me) least-buggiest, best-tasting one out there?
