Default Paypal express with COWOA - I need one setting.

Setting up a new store and my only mod is cowoa. I just configured the paypal express and noticed this line:
Express Checkout: Automatic Account Creation (Currently set to yes).

It seems obvious that since I'm using COWOA so that customers don't need an account that I should set this line to "NO" but sometimes when I do the obvious it results in a blue screen of death or white screen of nothingness and I really prefer the green screen of paying customers so I figured I'd ask first.

    thanks
    Joe

I would suggest your best focus would be on resolving those symptoms specifically.

Sorry sir, I read my question again and didn't realize it could be interpeted in such a way. Let me try again please.

I didn't mean to say that playing with this particular tab on the paypal express setup is giving me bsod or white blank space.
I said that in the past when I make a change to what I think is the obvious choice, it has caused errors. So before I go clicking on tabs or overwriting defaults I will ask if that is the right thing for me to do.

Now I am trying to configure paypal express on a new store under new circumstances.
I do not want my customers to be forced into making an account (that's why I mentioned I've installed COWOA).
I see the default tab setting on the paypal express is set to create an account.

The obvious choice to me is to turn that to "NO do NOT create account.
So I am asking - is that correct. If I don't want to force account creation after use of Paypal express, I select "NO"?

    thank you
    Joe

Without knowing exactly what ways the COWOA code breaks normal operation, I can't answer the question for you.

The setting you're referring to only tells Zen Cart to store a "1" or "0" value to the database when it DOES (always) create an account for the customer. The 1 or 0 simply determines whether that account can also be used to log back into the store and check on status of the order. It also determines whether the customer is sent a password in their welcome email to facilitate this ability to login.
As I said, it always DOES create an account. The setting you refer to only tells it whether that account is permanent and allows login, or if it's temporary and used once only.
It does not necessarily work in conjunction with the COWOA addon, and is definitely not "aware" of the existence of your COWOA addon, unless COWOA has made additional changes to make it "aware".

I'm pretty sure COWOA also always creates a customer account record, just doesn't let them login to it.

Your question is probably answerable as: "yes, setting that to 'no' will not send the customer a welcome email or login password".
And since that's probably all you were really wanting to know, then that probably suffices.

Question for you: have you tested it on your test site, to see what the impact is? Or are you saying you don't give yourself such a safety net?

OK, thanks yes that does explain it.

And no, I don't have a test site. I have one small store. When I make a change from the standard template I backup first and if the change doesn't work I undo.
But I am a company of one - CEO/Sales/Shipping/IT/Janitor is all me. That makes some of the live paypal testing difficult, which is why I asked here before making the setting - I figured as long as the PP-Express and COWOA modules have been around someone would have used the two in conjunction and would be able to tell me which way it went.

    thanks
    Joe
