Admin Log In Not Working, User Log In Not Working All of a Sudden

Hello,
I am truly puzzled...I set up Zen Cart 1.5.0 (installed via GoDaddy) for my client and all was working fine. I received a message that when you try to add an item to the cart, the cart was saying that it was empty. So, I tried to get into the admin section to figure out what was wrong, when I typed in my admin name and pw, click submit, nothing happens except the fields are cleared and I am still sitting at the log-in screen. No error messages come up.

So, I tried logging in to the shopping cart via a user name that I set up as a fictitous buyer, I get an error message that the e-mail address is not found in the data base, and I know it is/was there. I tried signing in using a brand new user name and e-mail address. When I try to log in, error message that the new e-mail/user is not in the database.

Now I have three problems with this thing, 1) the cart says its empty when it shouldn't be, 2) can't log in to the admin area 3) new/existing users can not log in. Can someone help? This cart so far is becoming the bane of my existence.

Ok, but if I do that, won't it reset all the customization of pages??? That I am not into re-doing again!

Yes to admin set customizations - if you save on your pc the files for your /custom/ overrides you can add these after

OR first switch to the classic template and see if the action is the same

If so, still download the distribution, expand on your pc, and reload/transfer the full fileset to your host via FTP

Unfortunately, I can not switch to the classic template, as I can not get into the admin. If I upgrade to the current version, would that only update the program and not the customized pages we have?

New wrinkle! I cleared the browser cache this morning, and I was trying yet again to get into either the admin area or just as a user for our store....when trying to get to the online store itself I get the following message from ZenCart:

Sorry!
There seems to be a problem connecting to our database. Please give us a few minutes to remedy the problem. Thank you.
