    Default Which price?

    Hello All,

Can someone please help me understand what is going on with my cart? I am recently set up my site with 1.5x... (had a site under 1.3 but wanted a fresh install)....Anyway. Here is what is up.

I enter Net and Gross prices under the "Product in Category:" As example, the Net price is 14.25 and the gross calculates out to be 15.2475 (BTW if someone can tell me how to get it to just 2 decimal places that would be helpful also). I have only 1 zone where taxes are charged so the 15.2475 applies there....otherwise I would like the price to to all other customers to end up the net price.

I wanted to sell the product for a discount at 20% off or $11.40. So I went to the discounts area "Product Info"...and entered $14.25 as the price and the "special price" I entered as $11.40 (20% discount).

When I preview and save and then go to the site....the price shows up as....

$15.25 as the normal price and the discount 20% off price is $12.20....which is, of course, 20% off the $15.25 cost which equaes to my Gross price entered on the "Product in Category" page perviously.

What am I doing wrong? I am so confused that I am probably making this much harder than it need be.

Thanks for any advice you can offer......

    SC

Zen Cart always bases everything on the Net price. The gross is always calculated based on the tax rate applicable to the currently-logged-in customer.
So as an American merchant, don't concern yourself with gross prices.

Exception, which doesn't apply to American merchants:
If you're a merchant in a part of the world where tax-included-pricing is the norm, then Zen Cart still bases everything off the Net price, but you would focus on setting your Gross price to be the desired amount, because your part of the world probably has only ONE single tax rate that is the same for everyone.

    Thanks DrByte....I appreciate the response.

I would gladly ignore the gross price but since it seems to show up in my shopping cart and my 20% discount is calcualting off of it that is forcing me to have to do something to get around it.....

Any suggestions on how to get around this issue?

The tax is applied only when your address puts you in a zone deemed taxable by your store.

If you're trying to test cases for people who are not being taxed, you'll need to use an appropriate address for that.

And for your admin side, the Gross is ONLY a display price, it is never saved to the database, so don't worry about what that says. The Gross amount displayed is calculated by applying the "possible" tax amount assuming the customer were in the same zone as the store is located (since that's where most taxes are applicable).

I can't seem to recreate what you're describing.

Say I have taxes set up to 7% for addresses in Florida.
I set up a new product, give it a $10.00 price (net). I leave it at the default tax class of Taxable Goods. The gross shows as $10.70.
When I go shopping in the storefront, the product shows as $10.00, and if I log in with a New York address, I still see $10.00. If I use a Florida address, I see the price as $10.00 and during checkout I see that it adds 0.70 tax as well.
If I add a discount for 20%, it shows the price as discounted to $8.00. Again, without logging in I see it as $8.00. Login to New York address, get $8.00. No taxes. Change to a Florida address, and I get 0.56 tax added.

Well..that's what I expected to happen. The gross price is listed no where else....yet it shows up on the website...

Is there a switch some place that impacts that?

OOps...thought I found it...in another category but I looked at the wrong line.....so it's doing in everywhere on the site.....

What's different about those specific products? Tax class? Other price-related settings? etc? Compare everything, including attributes and Pricing Manager settings.

Admin->Configuration->My Store-> "Tax Included in Prices" ... is this set to False? If not, why not?
