Sorry for the poor protocol.

This is a new install of 1.5.0 done this morning using Fantastico (they do not offer 1.5.1).
I have done no other work on it - the template was my first project.
I did a setup (1.3.9) over two years ago via Fantastico - worked fine, but wanted to start again from scratch,
I have verified that every template file is on the server and in the proper location, but I don't know if the permissions are wrong.
Did you mean "Update"??I select the Template name and then select 'Upgrade'
If so, I suggest that you manually install ZenCart and not use Fantastico

I did a new from-scratch installation of 1.5.1 using the recommended method, and a from-scratch download of the custom template

I still have the same problem!
When I select a Template and click Update, the Template Name and Template Directory are populated with the correct values.
When I go to Tools / Layout Boxes Controller (for the first time) it lists many new Sideboxes, and I click Reset.
When I go back to Template Selection, the default Name and Directory are blank again.
I appreciate all the help I have received so far. Do I have a file permissions problem, or is my database not retaining changes?
Is the template compatible with the ZC version?
And NEVER use fantastico...

Well I would venture to say that your settings are not being posted to the database
Reason is beyond being able to tell from afar

I just tried it with a template that is certified at 1.5.1
I looked in template_select, and looks like selection is not being retained.
I even tried to enter the data directly into template_select, but that is not helping, and I could be doing this wrong.
I may have set up the database connection improperly, yet in a way that does not cause an outright error?
Is there a way to review the database settings? Perhaps if I can post some of the setting info, it might help?
I appreciate everyone's help
Collect your DB user name. DB name & db pass
Then look at your configure.php files
But if incorrect you would get DB connect error
